  • Hiatal Hernia Repair

About 15% of Americans suffer from hiatal hernias. For a small number of hiatal hernia cases, surgery is required. Generally, this is reserved for those whose symptoms are not relieved by medication or altering lifestyle. Surgeons have traditionally performed this surgery using a conventional open incision into the chest wall or abdomen. However, at Methodist Mansfield Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates, surgeons offer the operation as a laparoscopic (minimally invasive) procedure. During laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon makes several very small incisions in the abdomen, through which the medical team inserts the scope and instruments. This approach results in less scarring and pain, faster healing, and quicker recovery.
  • Inguinal Hernia Repair

Surgeons at Methodist Mansfield Minimally Invasive Surgical Associates perform this procedure using a laparoscope, or tiny telescope connected to a special camera. The laparoscope is inserted through a cannula, a small hollow tube, allowing the surgeon to view the hernia and surrounding tissue on a video screen. Other cannulae are inserted that allow the surgeon to work inside the abdomen. A small piece of surgical mesh is placed over the hernia defect and held in place with small surgical staples. This operation is usually performed with anesthesia.
  • Ventral/Incisional Hernia Repair

Our surgeons are well versed in a variety of approaches to these sometimes very complicated cases and offer a very academic approach to each hernia repair. After a thorough exam our surgeons will discuss the optimal approach to get the most durable, lasting, and functional repair possible.
